Short version: there is no legal real-money online poker in California, and no framework to license one. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
California has never licensed online poker. "Sweepstakes" poker sites were specifically outlawed by Assembly Bill 831, signed October 11, 2025, which added Penal Code 337o making it unlawful to operate an online sweepstakes game in the state — reaching payment processors and affiliates too. If you want to play for real money, it's the licensed card rooms.
