Equity
Your share of the pot if every remaining card is dealt and nobody folds. Ties split the pot, so equity is not the same as your chance of winning outright.
Outs
Cards that improve your hand. Nine hearts complete a flush draw. But an out that pairs the board for your opponent is not "clean" — counting outs and estimating equity are different skills.
Pot odds
The price of a call. Required equity = call ÷ final pot. Facing a half-pot bet you need about 25%. If your real equity beats the price, calling is profitable.
The rule of 2 and 4
A fast approximation: outs × 4 on the flop (two cards to come), outs × 2 with one card to come. Quick, not exact — this game always shows the exact number too.
